General FAQs:

Crown Aesthetics provides a luxurious, yet fun environment that you can look forward to each time you visit.
The following are a few tips to help you achieve best results:
  • Stay away from alcohol consumption 24 hours prior.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat a meal before.
  • Review Crown’s pre-procedure guidelines for the treatment you are receiving which can be found in your patient portal. 
We kindly ask you to reschedule or cancel appointments before the 48 hours cut-off time. Upon booking, your card will be held on file for the cancellation policy only. It will not be changed for any other reason but in the case there is a no show or same day cancellation.

Please contact us immediately if you notice the following:

  • Severe pain and/or color change (pale/dusky/blotchiness) of skin anywhere on the face. Even if it’s away from the area injected.
  • Increase in pain, discomfort, color change hours after injections. This should get better, not worse.
  • Herpes or blister-like outbreak 24-72 hours after injections.
  • Severe swelling (3 times increase in size) 12 hours post-treatment.

Yes we do! Just remind us when you check in that you have an account and we will get your treatment logged & points added to your patient wallet.
There is no consultation needed for most treatments, as consults are done at the beginning of all appointments scheduled.

Botox / Dysport FAQs:

  • On arrival please make yourself comfortable in the Sade Suites waiting room. We will come out and get you when our staff is ready to begin your appointment.
  • Prior to treatment the area of treatment will be cleansed.
  • Your injector will then inject precise amounts of Botox / Dysport into the skin or muscle. Temporary injection site redness and swelling is common and usually goes away within the 15 minutes.
  • A follow up appointment 2 weeks after initial treatment is recommended to ensure satisfaction of treatment.
  • Call the office immediately if the areas treated become red or hot to the touch days after treatment.

  • To reduce bruising, refrain from taking blood-thinning medications, supplements, and foods like alcoholic drinks (unless they are prescribed to treat a health condition) for a week before your appointment. Medications & supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. Johns Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect.
  • Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to your treatment to reduce the chances of bruising.
  • Schedule your injection appointment at least 1 month prior to a special event, such as a wedding or vacation. To allow yourself time for a follow-up 2 weeks after.
  • You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Make sure you don’t come in on an empty stomach! Especially if you easily get lightheaded or faint.
  • If you have any autoimmune disorders, neurological disorders, or contraindications, please discuss with your injector and clear your procedure with your primary physician prior to your appointment.
  • If possible, come to your appointment with a clean face, free of make-up.

  • Avoid lying flat for 4 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours post-treatment.
  • Do not apply make-up preferably for 4 hours after treatment. Waiting 24 hours is best.
  • Avoid massaging or applying pressure to the treated area for 4 hours. Avoid wearing a tight hat if your forehead is treated.
  • Be patient. It takes two-three weeks to see full results. We will not inject more tox until you’ve passed the 2 week mark.
  • Schedule a tox follow-up with your injector after 2 weeks if you feel any tweaks are needed or you would like a dose adjustment for further correction.
  • Average longevity is 3-4 months, but it is very normal to see some movement returning after 6-10 weeks as it gradually wears off.
  • Continue to avoid alcohol for 1-2 days if bruising occurs as it could worsen.
  • You may continue to take Arnica after treatment to heal bruising faster.
  • Call the office immediately if the areas treated become red or hot to the touch days after treatment.

What is the downtime? Can I go back to work after my treatment?
Requires Treatment with Botox / Dysport requires no downtime. You can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave our clinic.
 
When will I see results?
The effects of Botox and Dysport begin to appear in 3 to 7 days, it is fully active in 14 days,  and gradually wears off over 3 months time.
 
How long do results last?
You can expect results to last 3–4 months. But it varies per person.
 
What if I don’t get Botox or Dysport every 3 months?
If you choose to not continue Botox or Dysport injections, without treatment, your muscles will continue to contract and potentially result in lines as before you started treatment.
 
Does it hurt?
We use extremely small needles so it feels like a small pin prick.
 
Will my face look undone or unnatural?
Botox and Dysport injections can result in a subtle appearance that only you will notice. During your consult we will form a plan to reach your goals.
 
What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are both purified proteins that effectively block muscle contraction. Botox and Dysport accomplish the same goal.
 
I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I be treated with Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport injections should not be used in pregnancy or when breastfeeding.

Dermal Filler FAQs:

  • On arrival please make yourself comfortable in the Sade Suites waiting room. We will come out and get you when our staff is ready to begin your appointment.
  • Prior to treatment the area of treatment will be cleansed.
  • We will apply a topical numbing cream if necessary to ensure you are comfortable for your treatment.
  • A follow up appointment 2 weeks after initial treatment is recommended to ensure satisfaction of treatment.
  • Temporary injection site redness and swelling is common and usually goes away within hours.
  • For Lip filler, swelling often lasts several days. Bruising may last 5-7 days, lumpiness, and uneven areas are common during the healing process and may last up to 3 weeks.
  • Results are immediate and last anywhere from 6–24 months.

  • To reduce the risk of bruising and swelling, refrain from taking blood-thinning medications, supplements, and foods (unless they are prescribed to treat a health condition) for a week before your appointment. Medications & supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. Johns Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect.
  • Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to your treatment to reduce the chances of bruising.

  • One week prior to your procedure, start taking Arnica tablets to reduce bruising. Please do so unless you are allergic or it is incompatible with any medication or medical condition you have – this may include high blood pressure. Arnica can be purchased at your local pharmacy or on Amazon. Please make sure to follow the directions on the label.
  • In the event you need a pain reliever within two weeks before or after your filler appointment, you may take Tylenol unless it is contraindicated for you.
  • Please eat a light meal before your appointment to avoid getting nauseated and faint.
  • Stay hydrated for a week before your treatment, especially if you are getting dermal fillers. Fillers pull moisture to the surface and dehydration can minimize results!
  • Please ensure that you do not have any dental appointments two weeks before or after treatment.
  • If you have any autoimmune disorders or contraindications, please clear your procedure with your primary physician prior to your appointment.
  • We will not perform lip filler or nasolabial filler on anyone that has braces. Please book your appointment after your braces are removed.
  • You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Do not apply makeup to the treated area for 24 hours
  • Continue to avoid alcohol for 1-2 days to reduce the risk of bruising If approved by your primary care provider, continue to avoid blood thinning medications for up to 1 week after treatment to avoid bruising.
  • Continuing to take Arnica after treatment (while bruising persists) can help to heal bruising faster.
  • No dental work for 2 weeks after your treatment.
  • Do not massage the treated area. Fillers will settle and soften on their own.
  • Avoid IPL/BBL or microneedling for 1-2 weeks post-procedure.
  • Call the clinic immediately (319-768-6302) if the areas treated become red or hot to the touch days after treatment or if you notice any odd bruising or evidence of poor blood flow to your skin.
  • Call the clinic as soon as possible if patchy, red, or hot patches appear in the treatment area or around the treatment area, if you have severe or increasing pain, or if the area becomes red or hot to the touch after the procedure.
  • Please come to your follow up appointment 2 weeks after your injections. This appointment is important for us to make sure you are happy with your results and to discuss any touchups or additional filler appointments that may be needed.

What is the downtime? Can I go back to work after my treatment?
It is common to experience redness, swelling, bruising, and soreness after treatment. After injections, you should still be able to return to work. If you are concerned about social downtime, schedule injections around special events.
 
When will I see results?
After treatment, you’ll see results immediately.
 
How long do results last?
It depends on the product used, the area injected, and the patient. Most filler injections last for 6–12 months.
 
What if I don’t get filler every 6–12 months?
Your skin will eventually return to its pre-treatment state if you do not continue filler injections.
 
Does it hurt?
In order to reduce pain during treatment, topical anesthetics may be applied.
 
Will my face look undone or unnatural?
A filler injection can create a subtle appearance when administered by the right medical provider in the correct amounts. Be aware, everyone might comment on your improved appearance, but they might not be able to explain why.
 
I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I be treated with fillers?
Injectable fillers are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Skin Treatment FAQs:

Yes! With the exception of retinol and hydroquinone, medical grade skincare is safe to use while pregnant / breastfeeding.
Patients who have vitiligo, or other autoimmune and pigmentation disorders should discuss the treatment with their provider prior to having it done. If you get cold sores more than 3 times a year, please let us know in advance and we will treat you prophylactically with an antiviral medication.

Microneedling Pre-care And Post-Care FAQs:

  • On arrival please make yourself comfortable in the Sade Suites waiting room. We will come out and get you when our staff is ready to begin your appointment.
  • Prior to treatment you will receive a gentle facial cleanse, cream may be applied under your eyes and around your nose to protect more sensitive skin.
  • We will apply a topical numbing cream if necessary to ensure you are comfortable for your treatment.
  • Fine needles puncture the skin, creating channels to stimulate new skin cells.
  • After treatment you will receive post-procedure cream for you to use 1-3 days after your treatment while healing.
  • Redness and slight swelling is common and goes away within 2-3 days.

PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS
This procedure is contraindicated in patients that: 

  • Are pregnant or nursing
  • Have active skin cancer in the treatment area, open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area
  • Have an allergy to lidocaine
  • If you are immunosuppressed
  • If you have taken Accutane in the past 3 months
  • 1 week prior to treatment please discontinue aspirin, naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), coconut oil, omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil, ginseng, gingko, St.John’s Wort.
  • 3 days prior to treatment, avoid ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil). (You may resume after the procedure.)( Unless directed by your medical provider)
  • The treated area may be pink and mildly inflamed (similar to the appearance of a mild sunburn) for 24-48 hours following your SkinPen procedure.
  • Please avoid makeup for 24 hours post-procedure
  • If you are prone to herpes simplex outbreaks, such as cold sores, consult your provider on ways to treat prior or whether the procedure is appropriate for you.
  • If your face or treatment area has irritated skin (sunburn, open wounds, sores) the day preceding your appointment, please contact our office before your appointment.
  • This procedure may not be performed on active breakouts or open lesions. Please consult your provider prior to your SkinPen procedure to address any such issues.
  • Discontinue the use of topical products containing AHAs, Retinol or Vitamin A for 24 hours prior to your SkinPen procedure, and 24 hours after your procedure

Post Care instructions:

  • Do not wear makeup for 24 hours following treatment.
  • Avoid the following products for 24 hours post-treatment: Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C or anything considered active skincare.
  • Avoid alcohol-based products the first week.
  • Avoid intentional and direct sunlight, and tanning beds for 24 hours
  • Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
  • No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments contain bacteria and may lead to infection or undesired outcomes.
  • After 48 hours you may return to using your regular skincare regimen.

Who is a good candidate?
Individuals looking to improve skin texture, reduce signs of aging, or diminish scars and pores are excellent candidates for microneedling.

When will I see the results?
Results typically become visible a few weeks after treatment, with improvements continuing over time.

How long do results last?
The effects of microneedling can last several months and can be extended with follow-up sessions.

Is there any downtime or side effects?
Microneedling has minimal downtime, with possible side effects including mild redness and sensitivity post-treatment.

What should I do before and after this treatment?
Avoid sun exposure, certain skincare products, and makeup before and after your microneedling session to optimize results.

What can I expect during this treatment?
During microneedling, you’ll experience mild discomfort as fine needles puncture the skin, promoting regeneration and healing.

Chemical Peels Procedure and FAQs:

  • On arrival please make yourself comfortable in the Sade Suites waiting room. We will come out and get you when our staff is ready to begin your appointment.
  • Prior to treatment you will receive a gentle facial cleanse, cream may be applied under your eyes and around your nose to protect more sensitive skin.
  • You will be provided a fan to help cool your face during the peel process.
  • Depending on the peel that you choose, you may receive a post-procedure cream for you to use for several days after your treatment while healing.
  • Redness and peeling skin is expected and can last 7-10 days depending on your chosen treatment. Surface level peels typically have zero downtime, however if you have sensitive skin you may notice flaking a few days after your peel.

Who is a good candidate for Medical-grade Peels?
Individuals with skin concerns like fine lines, acne scars, uneven skin tone, and sun damage are excellent candidates.

When will I see the results from a Medical-grade Peel?
Initial improvement is often visible shortly after treatment, with full results developing as the skin heals over the following weeks.

How often should I get a Medical-grade Peel?
The frequency depends on your skin type and goals. It is best to repeat a light peel after four to six weeks, while a medium peel after a few months is ideal.

Is there any downtime or side effects with Medical-grade Peels?
Some peels may require downtime, and common side effects include redness, peeling, and sensitivity, which subside as the skin heals.

What should I do before and after a Medical-grade Peel?
Avoid sun exposure and certain skincare products both before and after treatment, as advised by your skincare professional.

What can I expect during a Medical-grade Peel treatment?
You may experience a tingling sensation as the peel works to remove the outer layer of skin. Peel are often left on the skin for 5 to 15 minutes to work.

Skin Aftercare Protocol FAQs:

  1. Same Day: Leave serums on for the rest of the day. May cleanse with Gentle Cleanser if needed. Finish with blue Hydrating Serum, Avoid ANY Sun exposure.
  2. Day 2: Cleanse AM/PM with Gentle Cleanser. Finish with blue Serum. May reapply blue Hydrating Serum throughout the day as needed if skin feels tight, dry, itchy. MUST apply sunscreen if you will be outside.
  3. Day3: Continue Day 2 regimen.
  4. Day 5: Start using Exfoliating Cleanser to help exfoliate any existing flaking
  5. Day 7: May add Retinoids back into regimen.
  6. Continue your recommended Skincare regimen in between treatments for best results!

***We do not recommend using any over-the-counter skin care products outside of our protocol. These products are medical grade and tested by Crown Aesthetics + Wellness to ensure best procedure outcomes!
